I had two sets of twins 34 years ago and have had bladder problems ever since. These were exacerbated by a car crash which left me an incomplete paraplegic. Although I saw a Continence Advisor, his best suggestion was an indwelling catheter and bag system instead of pads.
The Spinal Unit suggested ISC and although I had other problems at the time, being incontinent had taken over my life. I found ISC with a LoFric catheter easy to do and it totally transformed my life.
I see myself 'before' and 'after' ISC as two different people. Before, I wore nappies, always took a change of clothes with me in case of accidents, was in pain because of bladder distension, suffered from kidney infections, wore unattractive clothes and always thought I was really smelly.
After learning ISC I took control of my lifestyle again, l lost weight, changed my hair colour and felt able to take pride in myself again. Best of all, there is no fear of being wet at an inappropriate time.
I am a very active sportswoman and I play tennis, badminton and snooker, the latter at National level. I am No.1 ladies wheelchair world snooker player and became 1st lady wheelchair snooker player in Europe.
