LoFric coating
1. Water 2. PVP + salt

LoFric is a hydrophilic catheter. The expression hydrophilic refers to the ability to attract water.

The surface of LoFric consists of PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) and salt. When immersed in water, PVP attracts water to the surface of the catheter, creating an outer layer mainly consisting of water, which greatly reduces friction.

PVP is a harmless and non-allergenic substance with the ability of attracting water and has been used in the context of medicine and medical products and in the cosmetics industry since the 1930’s.

Today PVP is one of the medical product industry's most studied and well-documented substances.
