LoFric Sense - Astra Tech’s new urinary catheter for women has been selected as one of 31 nominees (out of some 200 entries) for the Design S award, the Swedish design award that celebrates the best examples of Swedish design. The winners will be announced on 8 June 2010.

Astra Tech, leading provider of comprehensive solutions for dental implant therapy, is pleased to announce the expansion of Atlantis™ Abutment options to include the NobelActive™NP 3.5 and RP 4.3, 5.0 implants for customers in Europe, Australia and North America.

Astra Tech provides patient-specific abutments in a choice of four material options, including titanium, gold-shaded titanium, white zirconia and shaded zirconia.

Providing Atlantis Abutments for NobelActive™ implants further secures Astra Tech’s leadership position in providing patient-specific abutments for all major implant systems. This introduction is the latest in a series of Atlantis Abutments being developed for new implant interfaces such as the Straumann™ Bone Level implants. Astra Tech plans to introduce additional interfaces and material choices for the Atlantis™ patient-specific solution in 2010.

The five-year follow-up study on OsseoSpeed™ implants confirms the successful results presented in previous studies.

The five-year follow-up study was made by Dr. Steveling and co-workers at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Heidelberg University in Germany. The conclusion is that the OsseoSpeed™ implant shows very good results also in compromised sites when using an early loading protocol.

Astra Tech, a market leader in the field of implant dentistry, announces their strategic alliance with Dental Wings, the Canadian-based provider of CAD/CAM solutions with specialized development of 3D scanners, beginning in early 2010. As a result, Dental Wings users worldwide will have the ability to remotely transfer scans to Astra Tech’s design and manufacturing centers for the production of Atlantis™ patient-specific abutments for all major implant systems.

“Follow-up research among patients consistently shows a marginal bone level reduction of just 0.4 mm or less for Astra Tech dental implants, a performance indicator at least three times superior to the industry norm. The findings involve hundreds of individual cases and are remarkable in their consistency,” says Lyndon Cooper, Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina, who has performed one of the studies.
