Children who have suffered damage to their spinal cord can sometimes also have reduced fine motor ability or general motor ability, as well as reduced perception. So you need to adapt the environment and ISC equipment to your child's conditions.
It is important to sit steadily and securely. Your child's hands should be free so that they can assist in the ISC procedure. You must always allow enough time to complete the procedure, so that time-pressure will not force your child to give up. The routine should be clear to the child, as well as their delegated task.
Remember that Mum and Dad should also be able to work in a comfortable position!
In the long-term, the goal is your child being able to go to the toilet and empty their bladder independently using ISC.
There are of course several other steps such as practicing getting dressed and undressed. By practicing these different steps, the routine of ISC gets easier every time.
