All About Catheters
A catheter is a little tube which you can put into your bladder when you need to do a wee and it will get the wee out for you.
ISC is short for ‘Intermittent Self Catheterisation’. It means emptying your bladder by yourself regularly with the help of a little tube called a catheter.
Catheters help you to get your wee out when your bladder and your brain are not able to talk to each other to tell you when to do a wee.
Catheters are good because:
They protect your tummy from getting poorly from having too much wee inside
They reduce the number of UTIs, which are infections that can make you poorly
They stop you weeing yourself when you don’t want to
LoFric is a special catheter which is all slippery, this means that it’s easy to put in and take out and it won’t hurt
