A lot of different things can affect the body’s ability to keep urine in the bladder or to empty the bladder. Sometimes things don’t work the way they should. The most common causes of bladder problems in children are illness and injury.

- Retention - not being able to empty the bladder fully
- A combination of incontinence and retention
- Neurogenic Bladder Dysfunction - problems caused by damage to the brain or spinal cord
