Even if your child is able to manage ISC on their own, you should inform the teacher and school staff. It is not entirely necessary for the other children to know anything; going to the toilet in this way is still a private matter.
For your child’s integrity and development it is also important they learn that urinating is a private matter which should if possible be done sitting on a toilet with a closed door and with as few people as possible involved. Ensure that your child always locks the toilet door at school and if possible, your child should have a personal toilet with a lockable cabinet for their ISC equipment.
Telling the teaching staff at your child’s school will ensure that if toileting requirements interrupt the teaching timetable, there will be cooperation between staff and pupil, thus avoiding misunderstanding.
Adequate consideration should be given to advising schools about their facilities when a child is due to change school, from primary to secondary school for example, so that the new school has time to provide adequate facilities for your child.
