When to Use a Catheter
You will need to use a catheter to wee if you are not able to do a wee by yourself because you are injured, or you have a condition which means you’re not able to do a wee in the normal way.
A catheter is a little tube which you can put into your bladder when you need to do a wee and it will get the wee out for you.
When you see your nurse or doctor they will be able to talk to you all about using a catheter and they will be able to show you how to use one to wee. They will also talk to you about how many times a day you need to do a wee with your catheter, this is different for everyone and they will work out a special plan just for you. You can help them do this and tell them the best times for you, like school breaks or the time you get home from school.
