Prostate and Enlarged Prostate
The prostate is located by the urethra, just below the bladder, around the bladder neck. The prostate produces a thin secretion that is mixed with semen and allows the sperm to move more easily.

Before puberty the prostate weighs approximately 1.6g, but in after puberty it increases to about 21g by the age of 20-30 (it’s then about the size of a walnut). By the age of 50 one in two men experience palpable prostate enlargement and by the age of 80 this figure increases to 90%.

Why men develop an enlarged prostate is uncertain, but known risk factors are age and functioning testes.
