It is possible to treat the problems that arise as a result of the injury.
Treatment is based on 3 main principles with the following goals:
- Prevent backflow of urine from the bladder to the kidneys
- Prevent complications such as large amounts of residual urine or UTIs
- Increase the quality of life by reducing urine leakage
These can be achieved through a combination of different treatments:
- Catheterisation: ISC, indwelling catheter or suprapubic catheter
- Pharmaceutical treatment
- Surgical treatment
- Pelvic training
